READING FOR STUDY PURPOSES
when you read for study purposes, you must understand that such reading is quite different from the kind of reading you do when you are reading a story for pleasure or when you are reading a newspaper.
Reading for study purposes means learning what you read and being able to tell somebody what you have learned. such reading demands that you stop from time to time to test your understanding of what you have read.
The best way to do this is to skim the assigned reading first, noting What the text covers. A few minutes spent finding out what the text covers will prepare your mind on what you are about to read. Once you have done this, you are ready to begin your careful reading. while reading keep in mind that you are looking for information, when you get your first information keep the text aside and try to say from memory the best way to do this is by writing.
when you have finished the entire text, put the book aside and try to ask and answer every questions raised in your reading. If you you not answer the questions go back the answers you have written in order to refresh your memory. If u work this way, you will be preparing for any test that will be given unexpectedly and otherwise. Once you are able to summarize an entire text, you have learned what you are supposed to have learned. You have not only gotten yourself ready for a test but have also implanted the knowledge of what you have read permanently.
